Channel 10 is supposed to be showing the rest of season 6 starting at
episode 4 (they only showed the first 3 before pulling it and replacing it
with that incredibly annoying Ashton Kutcher show) at around 1:30pm
weekdays starting in December I think.
Ratings were the reason apparently. It didn't rate, so it got pulled.
I dislike being treated with such disdain by the TV stations in Australia,
so I'm downloading the episodes instead. I'm up to episode 8 - Spiderwebs
right now.
It's commercial TV's problem. They don't care about the people who actually
watch it, they base the ratings on a selected group who are supposed to
represent the population of the city or country or whatever, and if they
don't get high ratings they need to pull it of popular time slots so that
they don't lose advertiser's interests, because all advertisers care about
is showing their product to the largest audience possible, so they want
their moneys worth. Commercial TV is only free because of ads, so there is
nothing we can do if the rest of the population doesn't tune in. How sad.
I actually don't mind the endless ads and rise & rise of
reality/cooking/renovation/gardening/holiday/manufactured pop idol shows.
Since I don't watch any of them and they all occupy completely the
prime-time viewing slots, it has forced me to find alternative ways to
watch what I wanna watch. Necessity being the mother of invention, you
quickly become proficient at downloading and converting to (S)VCD all your
favourite TV shows that aren't being shown by the commercial TV stations
anymore.
And with this comes the added benefit of no ad interuptions at all. I watch
virtually nothing on free, live to air broadcast TV anymore. The only
things I watch live to air are broadcast by ABC or SBS these days.
The miniscule loss in quality by watching a downloaded DVD or TV-rip is
easily compensated for by not having 3 minute long ad breaks every 7
minutes I can assure you!
