Joey's dad coming back

When exactly does Mike Potter (Joey's dad) come back to Capeside? I
remember him on "Merry Mayhem", but when was he on before that?

In that Season 5 Ep, didn't the show end with Joey pulling up at the
place he worked with her paper/book/manuscript (whatever it was that
she wanted him to read)? I guess it was just another off screen
reuinion we're supposed to accept without them having to pay a guest
star. :)

That's one of those 'What the fuck?' moments.
Season 5 we were told that Joey's father had finished his sentence but had
not told any of his family members and didn't leave a forwarding address of
any kind.
Then in the last season, he's miraculously there and there's no talk about
him disappearing.

If that happened, I must have forgotten it. It's been awhile and I'm
currently watching Season 2 episodes on tape. The episode after the one
where they all study at Chris (Jason Behr)'s house.
