As I watch the reruns on cable, sometimes I feel like I'm the only person
that was a true fan of the first season and of Dawson and Joey finding their
way back to one another. After watching that first season I saw such
potential. I loved the Dawson and Joey storyline in the first season. I
loved the cliffhanger. Although, I thought there was a good chance of
writing these characters into the corner too soon. But, I had faith.
Unfortunately, the writers and TPTB took a great storyline and just threw it
into the crapper.
In my opinion, the show never recovered from the first season. I don't care
if the actors on the show didn't like each other. It's about being true to
the characters, which they weren't. They turned Joey into an indecisive and
wishy-washy mess. I liked calling her the "Brandon" on the show, because she
got the hookup every season. They made Dawson into a whiny insecure brat. No
wonder no one liked his character. And Pacey. They wrote Pacey way better
than Dawson. They gave his character so much more well...character. Now, I
wouldn't have cared so much, if the first season hadn't have been so good. I
wouldn't have cared if it wasn't called DAWSON'S CREEK! I mean seriously.
Why name the show after the character if that character isn't going to be
well written or given the main storylines.
In my opinion, since the two other actors ended up being more "popular" the
TPTB catered to that audience, instead of redeeming Dawson and not making
Pacey the much better guy. Even in the finale I was once again disappointed
by Joey choosing Pacey. She had no other choice, because Dawson was so badly
written and was never truly redeemed after the second season.
Please tell me I'm not the only one that feels this way. You all can't be
Pacey and Joey fans.

I have to disagree with you. I am not a "Pacey and Joey" fan, nor a "Dawson
and Joey fan" I am just a HUGE fan of the show period and I think that if
it would have been written any other way it would not have kept the
intrest of veiwers and would not have been as good as a show as it was. If
you are only a fan of season one, then I would say that you are not a fan
at all.

And I would agree with you. I stopped watching every episode after the
second season. When I saw where they were going and how bad the writing was,
I only would watch it every so often. I guess I have higher expectations in
my shows. I'm not saying I don't watch bad shows for entertainment, I mean I
still watch Smallville hoping that it might get better.
My point was that I had so much hope after the first season and when Kevin
Williamson left, so did the heart of the show. I don't think I would've
minded a Pacey/Joey hookup in the third or fourth season. It would have been
nice if they would have given Dawson and Joey a chance, which I don't think
they ever did. Good writing develops characters and plotlines. For example,
Buffy and Angel. Joss Whedon knows how to write and develop a show.
I felt the same way about Roswell. They had such an awesome first season and
then TPTB interfered and they messed with what truly made the show work. It
would've been nice had Dawson's Creek been true to their characters, instead
of writing them into so many corners that the only logical decision was how
the finale ended.

I agree with you to a point. The first 2 even maybe 3 seasons were the best
and I could see why a person would loose interest after those seasons. I
guess I just have a weakness for the show.

Agreed, the Pacy Joey thing was way out of character. She may have had
the hots for Pacy but Dawson was her soulmate.

The Pacey/Joey/Dawson love triangle made for a good storyline..The only
problems i have is the way/reason Dawson & Joey breakup in season 2. Pacey &
Joey have too good of chemistry that was never there with Dawson to keep
them appart.

No you aren't. I feel the same way. I've watched season one over and
over again and when I watch or think about later seasons I ask myself
"what did they do?" :-(

Agreed again. On Star Trek half the cast hated Shatner but you never saw
it on screen because they were professionals. Doohan and Koenig
especially had a lot to keep inside but you NEVER saw it on camera or in
public appearances.

I don't care

Yes, they took what was a phase she was going through (a lot of girls do
at that age) and used it to define her character :-(

I liked calling her the "Brandon" on the show, because she

Actually, Dawson was whiny in season one too but like Joey this was a
phase that he should have grown out of.

wonder no one liked his character. And Pacey. They wrote Pacey way better

They decided early on that they needed to "redeem" Pacey. It started
with his relationship with Andie and when that didn't last they moved to
Joey because there had been a little bit of chemistry between them in
the episode they went into the river to do that science project in
season one. They conveniently forgot that of course there was chemistry
-- the two of them nearly froze to death during the filming which builds
natural camaraderies which only naturally comes out on screen.

To me their "romance" after that rarely looked natural and generally
felt forced.

They named it after Dawson because Kevin Williamson IS Dawson but unlike
his TV counterpart I think he got his "Joey" in the end as Dawson was
always intended to untill they started writing the second half of the
finale :-(

I think this is true to a point but also the fact that they were
"redeeming" him as a character made him naturally interesting. Sadly
being "good" all the time is boring and the only think more exciting to
an audience than a bad character is a bad character being redeemed.

No you aren't the only one who feels this way. I do too but it's
unfortunately not up to is. Just remember -- we'll always have fanfic :-)
